
Kirsten Flagstad was regarded as the incarnation of Isolde in Wagner’s opera Tristan und Isolde, and two of the dresses she wore in that rôle, both in the USA and in many of the major European opera houses, are exhibited in the museum, along with costumes she wore as Eva in Die Meistersinger, Elizabeth in Tannhäuser and Kundry in Parsifal.

At the Mermaid Theatre in London Kirsten played Dido in Henry Purcell’s opera Dido and Aenaes.
The portrait of her by the famous British photographer Angus McBean is on display along with the headgear she wore at these performances.
